This small Ozuku whetstone is for Tomo Nagura. Tomo means the same kind of or sharing in Japanese. Tomo Nagura means what the both base whetstone on the bottom side and the rubbing whetstone on the top side are the same kind of or same mountain of layer of whetstone, and using them rubbing each other whetstones. It is for making the base Ozuku bottom whetstone to be flat, and producing enough slurry. Most Ozuku whetstones are very hard, and it is hard to get slurry at the beginning, so it makes scratches on the blade. Tomo Nagura is used for the situation. It is also used for making the base Ozuku whetstone to be flat and taking out micro size of waste surface or removing old particles on the surface of the sharpening. Sometimes, blade that sharpening on Ozuku does not move smoothly, because it does not have enough slurry. In those situations, Tomo Nagura might help to prevent the trouble like a buffer. It can be big enough to be a fine engraving knife or chisel whetstone itself too.
