It is double bevel edge blade, and it has concave on the both sides. The handle and body portions of razor are watetsu. The bevels show the layers are watetsu too.

*Hagane---steel (white I steel) *Jigane----iron (Watetsu)

The Jigane (soft iron, the body of the blade and the handle) is made out of wrought iron that is very soft iron from 19 century ( I guess, after that, not much production), so it is much easier to sharpen (smoother) or easier to raise the slurry than Goku Nantetsu (contemporary mass product soft iron). Hagane (steel, the edges of the blade) is made out of Hitachi white I steel which is pure high carbon steel(white I B: C;1.2-1.3, white II B: C; 1.0-1.1). The hagane is Hitachi white I steel that is pure high carbon steel like white II steel, but it has more Carbon content in the steel that is able to higher HRC than white II steel. White I steel is pure carbon steel, so it is not easy to success the quenching and tempering processes (highest pure carbon steel in Hitachi Steel Co.). The Jigane is made out of Watetsu that is very close to pure iron and very low percentage of Carbon and any others, so it is much easier to sharpen and easier to raise the slurry than Goku Nantetsu (industrial soft iron). It is the one of the best Jigane in Japan, but it is hard to get it.

Watetsu is the iron that is produced with Tamahagane, when Tamahagane (approximately 0.8% to 1.5% carbon content) is made during Tamahagane steel manufacture, however Watetsu is approximately 0.1% of carbon content, so it cannot use it for blade edge (Hagane) . However, Watetsu is used as excellent Jigane (softer iron), because it is very soft, and easy to sharpen, and feel excellent during sharpening, and great shock absorber. Japanese carpentry blacksmiths who make high quality chisel or plane use Watetsu for those cutleries of Jigane. Of course, Japanese sword blacksmiths use Watetsu for Jigane of Japanese sword. Watetsu shows very nice layers of iron, because it has to be hold over many times for homogenized to be watetsu products. There are some hard side of Watetsu : One is what we have to make own Tamahagane, or the other way is to find 100 plus years old iron products like high quality old hardware originated from Tatara steel manufacture (a part of Tamahagane, I meant we have to find old Watetsu to recycle).

Watetsu is made out of charcoal and iron sand, and it is not homogenized, so it has to turn over many times to be homogenized iron product, and blacksmith has to remove unwanted part of iron or steel in Watetsu.

It costs much more, and it takes more hours than just using ordinary Nantetsu from steel industry company.

However , the Jigane by Watetsu looks natural Damascus, because it is turned over so many times uneven soft iron layers which is very beautiful.
