Takashima whetstone has been approximately 200 years of history. It is shipped from Takashima harbor to Otsu. It is very similar looks and quality with Nakayama, so it has been used by craftsmen who sharpen Knife at Sakai. Most of Takashima whetstones are little bit softer than comparing with hard Kyoto fine grit finishing natural whetstones like Nakayama or Ozuku, so it is great whetstone before using those hard fine grit whetstones. It is great whetstone to delete scratches on blade after processed medium grit whetstone, because Takashima includes very low amount of unwanted particles in natural whetstone. Takashima is one of great natural whetstone to get into a natural whetstone beginner; however, Takashima is great whetstone for an expert, because it has lots of variety. It is still mined by one over 70 years old person (it might be closed now, because he does not go the mine anymore) and it had been mined lots of quantity about 80 to 100 years ago.
